Dear Members of Arb|Aut,
For two decades, Vienna Arbitration Days has provided a forum for critical debate on international arbitration. As the conference marks its 20th anniversary, it does so at a moment of heightened scrutiny and rising expectations for arbitration worldwide. VAD 2026 takes a hard look at what happens when core principles are put under pressure.
It is against this backdrop that Vienna Arbitration Days 2026, taking place on 20 & 21 November, will convene under the theme:
Arbitration Unplugged: Under Pressure
Arbitration is facing mounting demands from courts, regulators, and users alike. Expectations have risen, and with them the pressure placed on the system’s core principles:
- party autonomy under heightened judicial scrutiny;
- enforcement challenged by increasingly complex cross-border realities; and
- truth-finding complicated by data-intensive and sophisticated evidentiary processes.
VAD 2026 will examine what happens when these pressures converge. The conference will explore how arbitration’s foundational concepts perform when exposed to sustained external and internal strain — and whether adaptation is possible without losing what has defined arbitration over the past decades.
At the centre of this anniversary edition lies a deceptively simple question: When the pressure is on, can arbitration stay true to its essence?
The announcement of this theme marks the launch of the VAD 2026 programme. In the weeks ahead, we will gradually unveil the keynote speaker, the three panels with their speakers and moderators, as well as the social programme accompanying this special anniversary edition. All updates and details will be available on our website. You can also follow us on LinkedIn for the latest news and announcements.
Twenty years on, Vienna Arbitration Days continue to look forward. Arbitration is under pressure — and that is precisely where the conversation begins. So make sure to mark your calendars.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Vienna.
Kind regards,
Alice Fremuth-Wolf
(Arb|Aut President)
