Online panel discussion in which experts in the field will introduce young practitioners to energy arbitration

The panel will focus on introducing the specifics of energy arbitration to young practitioners. The panelists will discuss, among others, the following questions:

- What kind of disputes do regularly arise in the energy industry?

- What are the typical characteristics of these disputes?

- Who are the main actors in the field and how do they interact?

- What will the future hold for Energy Arbitration in Europe?

 

The panel will consist of the following notable practitioners:

Lisa Beisteiner

Lisa Beisteiner is a specialist in international arbitration with a particular focus on construction and energy disputes. She advises clients in all aspects of commercial and investment arbitration under a variety of different rules, including the ICC, VIAC, UNCITRAL, DIS and ICSID rules, and before ad-hoc panels. She regularly sits as an arbitrator including as president of the tribunal notably under the ICC, VIAC and DIS rules, as well as in ad-hoc proceedings, and also appears as counsel before the national courts. A graduate of the University of Vienna (Mag. iur. 2005, Dr. iur. 2008) and a certified mediator, Lisa Beisteiner is a regular conference speaker and publishes in her field. Most recently, she co-authored e.g. an extensive English language commentary on arbitration law in Austria (Austrian arbitration law, 2016), a commentary on the European Convention (“The European Convention on International Commercial Arbitration – A Commentary”, Kluwer, 2019), as well as an extensive paper in the field of construction arbitration (Kluwer, Provisional Measures Specific to Construction Arbitration, Baltag/Vasile (eds) Construction Arbitration in Central and Eastern Eu-rope: Contemporary Issues, 2020). Starting fall 2021, Lisa will be lecturing on international arbitration at the Austrian Lawyers Academy (AWAK). Lisa served as a co-chair of the Young Austrian Arbitration Practitioners (YAAP) since January 2019 (until 2021), and has been part of the YAAP board since January 2018, which co-organizes major arbitration conferences such as the Vienna Arbitration Days or GAR Live Vienna. She is a listed arbitrator of VIAC (Internationales Schiedsgericht der Wirtschaftskammer Österreich), and a member of the VIAC Domestic Advisory Board.

Jan Panacek

Jan currently works as a general counsel for a major Central European energy company. He previously worked as the Head of International Arbitrations and Protection of Foreign Investments of the Czech Republic where he took part inter alia in solar arbitration disputes and started his legal career as a litigation attorney for one International Law Firm. He represented clients in many commercial and investment arbitrations revolving around energy generation and distribution.

Evgenia Peiffer

Evgenia advises and represents clients in commercial disputes before courts and arbitral tribunals. Her practice focuses on controversies in connection with supply, distribution and licensing agreements in a variety of industry sectors (i.a. energy, infrastructure and construction, automotive). With Eastern European roots and language skills, Evgenia has particular experience in disputes related to the CEE region.

Yaroslav Petrov

Olga Kuchmiienko

Olga Kuchmiienko is a Ukrainian qualified arbitration practitioner currently working in Stockholm. Apart from the main in-house responsibilities where Olga focuses on international trade, dispute resolution and compliance issues, Olga acts as a Guest Lecturer at Uppsala University (Sweden) and author of articles in International and Ukrainian journals (Kluwer Arbitration Blog, Austrian Yearbook on International Arbitration, Forbes, Miller Magazine, Ukrainian Journal of Business Law etc.) as well as in her own Blog at the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA) web-site.

Most recently being the Deputy Head of the International Law Committee at UBA and Representative of Ukrainian Attorneys-at-Law Association in Sweden, Olga has been involved as organizer, speaker and moderator at numerous events (UBA, UAA etc) and established 2 Mentoring Programs for young practitioners in Sweden and Ukraine.
